Intent

Reduce pollution and land development impacts from automobile use.

Requirements

To qualify for this credit, commercial, institutional and/or residential buildings must provide secure bicycle parking within 200 yards of a building entrance.

The following Guidelines must be met:

Commercial/Institutional Buildings: There must be secure bike racks for 5% or more of all building occupants measured at peak use. Furthermore, showering facilities must also be provided.

Residential Buildings: COVERED bike racks/storage facilities must be provided for 15% of the occupants. No showering facilities are required.

Potential Additional Point for Exemplary Performance

One innovation point for “exemplary performance in alternative transportation” is available by creating a complete transportation plan for building users that will affect a verifiable decrease in single occupancy vehicles. Options would include alternative transportation like biking and walking, mass transit options, car pooling and telecommuting options.
